You need to upgrade to the later transmission with overdrive.. Simple to
do... The after market overdrives will break you.. Go the tranny swap
route.. Find a later GMC vehicle in a wrecking yard with the o/drive..they
all work if from a V8 engine.. You will have all the wires needed from the
donor vehicle... Pretty straight forward swap... You may need to buy a
diesel torque converter for it.. unless you are lucky enough to find the
whole unit on a diesel vehicle..
