Water injection in aircraft has been used for
years well after WW II. As an example the B-52
with straight turbojet engines uses water
injection as a means of adding power when the
throttles are firewalled on takeoff. How do they
prevent the water tanks from freezing? Simple a
heater is plugged into ground power and once they
light off the engines and go to takeoff power the
water injection is turned on and left on until it
is dry.
