Well, I was checking on SB27 today and it turns
out the Governor Vetoed the bill on the 5th!
The reason cited on the web page is as follows:
Senate Bill 27 - SB27 exempts private historical
military vehicles from the requirement to display
a license plate on the vehicle. License plates
are a necessary and effective public safety tool
for law enforcement. Providing exceptions to this
requirement based on the type of vehicle driven
on our state highways is contrary to the state's
responsibility to provide for the public's
safety. I therefore VETO SB27.
What kills me is that the DMVS actually
suggested the language for the as Passed bill
after complaining that the requirement to
register the vehicle with the bumper/hull numbers
was too expensive. DOT was rolled into DMVS and
DPS under this governor so essentially the same
big department requested the language and killed
it.
Between SB28 and this, these guys are pissing me off.
darn if I'm not going to be pestering HECK out
of the Governors Office tomorrow
Call the Governor and complain. LOUDLY. There is
NO difference between this kind of bill and the
provisions that allow vintage cars to display an
older VERY out of Date Georgia Tag. Its not like
a Jeep can out run a Police Cruiser.
