The first modern Woodland BDU as we know today was issued in 1967 for
special forces.

Because of the effectiveness of it's camouflage the Army decided to equip
the everyone with this uniform. After a few modifications the current BDU
was born. http://www.ukasc.net/reviews/bullebdu/shirtfront.jpg
It was first issued to special forces around 78~79 and issued to all troops
in 81~82.

I hope that helps.

Darrell
