** High Priority **

While this is not a vehicle, I thought someone out there might know
something about the PE-77D generator. I am working on one I recently
obtained. It is a complete unit with all dataplates intact which indicate it is
might be a 1944 model. Specifically, it does not give a date of
manufacture but rather has 6387 PHILA 44. It also has another marking
below the dataplates which simply states,
"M.F.P. Oct 1951"
A retired Army friend of mine ('47 through '68 active duty and '69 through
91 DA civilian) says the MFP stands for "Moisture Fungus Proofed." He
immediately recognized the generator and said they used them during the
Korean War.

The dataplates give the classification of 250 Watts, 115 VDC. The
engine is a single cylinder Briggs and Stratton.

Were these generators used for anything other than lighting? If so,
what? Also, why does the Army use DC lighting systems? All the light
sets I've ever come across in the Army are DC units which require
special bulbs instead of simply using off the shelf bulbs.

If you know anything about the history of these units, please send me a
note.
