Cold start trouble

Hello everyone,
Enjoying my new Duce (1967), but having trouble starting cold. The engine is
a LTD 465 Continental Multi-fuel and has only 5000 miles since Depot New. I
suspect there is a cold start mechanisms that is not functioning. To start,
I must crank about a minute, then once started, it won't idle for about 5-7
minutes. Then after it's warm, idles at a perfect 650. I set the hand
throttle to 1000 rpm for the first 5-7 (thanks Eric). My friends Duce of
similar vintage, fires almost immediately cold, and idles nicely right off
the bat. This has me suspecting a faulty cold start circuit or mechanisms in
mine.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
David
