Dear M. Laurent de Miollis:

Many of us in the US still honor the memory of the Marquis de Lafayette who,
with other Frenchmen, served with distinction in the American army during our
revolution of independence from Great Britain. So I appreciate your thanks
for the men of 1944 (including my father and several uncles), andI thank you
for Lafayette, Rochambeau and the French of 1776.

This is the background for an American officer wading ashore on 6 June 44 and,
on reaching dry land, saying "Lafayette, we are here!"

Best wishes for a Happy New Year,

chuck chriss
