If you folks can stand just one more letter in regards to the angry,
misguided individual who couldn't figure out how he got on this mailing
list and wanted to get off, a thought came to me that i feel should be
shared. An interesting point was made about how companies like AOL have
helped to expand access to the Web to the point where "mainstream
America" has become included in what was once a rather exclusive world.
I'm sure we all know the many ways technology has the power to fragment
the community aspect of our society, but as demonstrated in this mailing
list and others like it, it also has the power to create communties in
ways they never existed before. The names and writing styles of those
few who stay on this list become familiar, even though we may never meet
each other face to face. Is this not a neighborhood of sorts? What an
awesome concept!
