You're right. However, the only radio equipment presently able to survive
EMP (Electro-Magnetic Pulse) from atomic detonations at short distance is -
you guessed it - vacuum tube equipment.... Mind you, moderne vacuum tubes
do not always closely resemble thier predecessors.
