You could look into a bigger Chevrolet engine. The original 216 or 235 has only
about 90 hp. A more modern (up till 1962) 235 engine has 135 hp. If you could
find one, a Chevy 261 has 158? hp and a full flow oil filter. The back end of
either or a GMC will mate with your bellhousing and the front will need to be
drilled (the timing chain cover) while it is in the truck. The only potential
problem is the exhaust manifold is angled back at about 30 degrees from
vertical. On US trucks this comes close to the steering gear box which should
not be a problem for you.

The GMC 270/302 is ~1.5" longer than the Chev and has the starter on the same
side as the Chev.
