About the only thing I can suggest as a replacement for this seal is the
horsehair seat padding from a military vehicle. I bought the seat frames from
an M-38A1 for a friend of mine he only wanted the frames so I kept the covers
and horsehair pads.
I compared them to a large piece of radiator seal padding that survived on
one of my jeeps and can assure you that they are not identical but are a lot
closer than carpet padding. You will need to have one side plastisized or
rubberized to hold it together but it should work. Some seat pads were held
together by a funny green plastic that should be avoided if possible.
