M22 Hull use by the British

Well, from the multitude of responses that I have received
in response to my questions about the two available M22
hulls, this has led to another question or two.

(And I thank all who responded to my original questions,
whether I was able to respond to each personally, or not.)

The idea has been brought to my attention by a few
other list-readers, that after the British realized that the armor
of the M22 was really deficient, that they removed the turret
from the hull, and used it to tow artillery or AT guns. I have
also been told that there was an MG ring (model # or
nomenclature unknown) was placed above or in (which one?)
the hole created by the turret's removal.

Can anyone confirm this? Are there pictures of this, or
any accounts that anyone has seen in print that attest to this
fact? If so, where? Which weapons were towed, which model
# was the MG ring?

If this is true, I may be able to use the hull (or hulls) to
restore to this gun-tractor mode. (Though I would prefer to
be able to restore to original form! :>)

It has also been said that *ALL* turrets for the M22 were
destroyed when the vehicles were sold by the military? Any
knowledge of this, as an M22 would be alot less threatening
than, say, a Sherman or Pershing. (And they survived intact.)

Any help appreciated.
