I have heard this story from all over the world. Brings tears to my eyes,
even now.

Like Daryl says, Detroit just doesn't want all of those excess vehicles on
the road. They don't want you to get your hands on a good used vehicles
cheap! They want to sell you one. They want to take your money, not let you
give it back to the government. The government can get some more money from
the stupid taxpayers!
When WWII was over I stood on the flight deck of the USS Hancock and
watched
the jeeps roll off the cliffs in Guam, into the deep, never to be brought
back stateside to be driven by a veteran. Detroit wanted to get back to
civilian production and keep those old military vehicles off of the
streets.
It broke my heart to watch those jeeps hit the ocean, I wanted to bring one
home! No such luck. I had to stand in line like everybody else for a new
car
after the war and wait for Detroit to meet the demand, and pay full price
plus a bonus because they let you have one. Give me a break! I wouldn't pay
the bonus, so I wound up with a used car instead!
