It's true about the jeeps being given for just the cost of shipping but
due to the times, very few took advantage of it at the time. I did a
reatoration onan MB that up until then was "original." Owner was an "Air
Force" vet who became a lifer. Didn't return to the states until 1946-7
and brought along his MB. Last ran in 1966 and sold it to a collector for
$1.00 and the promise to get it restored completely with his brother,
Mickey's, name on side. (He was lost over in Europe in '44.) We completed
the restoration in '94 for 50th D-Day anniversary. See Army Motors story
