[MV] Jeep ID

Hello, this is my first post here and I think it's great to have this
resource available! I don't have any military vehicles, but I've
always liked them and always wanted one. I'm very mechanically
inclined, but most of my auto experience is 70-80's GM V8 cars.

Recently a girlfriend was offered first shot at an old Military Jeep.
It was her stepfather's, who died a few years ago. It's in her
mother's garage now, and nobody knows much about it. Her mother
insists that it's worth $2000, and I have no ammunition on my side to
say otherwise.

I haven't seen the Jeep personally (we plan to go down to see it
together soon), but the GF went and looked at it and told me what she
remembers about it. It ran when put away 10 years ago, it's been in
storage since. She remember's her step dad saying it was a Willy's,
not a Ford. She said he built it, with the options he wanted, from a
hulk and a bunch of parts. There are some papers and manuals with it,
but she couldn't find any clues in them. She mentioned it had a winch
on the front, and three levers on the floor that she didn't know what
were for (I figure gearshift, 2 speed transfer case, and ? winch?
brake?).

My questions are how do I ID this thing? What should I look for to
determine what it is? Anything that could make this particularly
valuable? Are there any problem areas that I should look for on this
vehicle to make sure it's in servicible condition? Once I find out
what it is, where can I look to get a rough idea of what similar
vehicles are selling for?

Lastly, should we try to get this thing started? Any tips? I assume
that the battery is dead, is it 6V, 12V or even 24V? Or should I just
push-start it? Of course I'll check all the vital fluids before
trying to start it, and if we get it first thing that happens is
changing all fluids.

Thanks in advance!
