It is my understanding that everything but the Date of Delivery was stamped
by the manufacturer as the jeep was being assembled. The date of delivery was
not stamped until the vehicle was assembled, inspected, and given a 500 mile
break-in/ test run. At this time it recieved its Registration Number and Date
of Delivery and was accepted for service by the Army Ordnance Corps
inspector. This information (DoD and Registration #) was recorded on a paper
tag. The manufacturer then applied them to the vehicle and prepared the
vehicle for shipment.
