This is where the canvas top was stored when removed from the bows. The four
footman loops on the bottom of the passenger seat are for the straps that
held the top in place.
On later jeeps (like your 44 MB) the decontaminator was stored on the floor
pan under the passenger seat. Look for three sets of two holes (or screws
with lead washers) under the passenger seat.
