[MV] WW2 jeep jack

Hi List,

A friend of mine has acquired a small fully-enclosed mechanical jack about 7"
tall with a serrated round lifting pad on the top of the lifting screw. It is
painted black and does not seem to have any markings on it. The accompanying
handle folds in two pieces and one end has a hexagonal bar welded/forged to it
with a small cross pin going through it and protruding several inches on
either side to help you turn it. The jeep wheel lug wrench fits this hex and
presumably is used to turn it under load.

The jack came out of a WW2 3/4 ton Dodge ambulance but it is clearly not the
correct Dodge jack. The question is could it be the late WW2 jeep screw jack
mentioned in Lawrence Nabholtz's article on page 43 of the latest "Military
Vehicles" magazine. We are familiar with the earlier ratchet jeep jack but
have never seen one of the later jacks. Lawrence's article indicates that
these late jeep jacks had folding 3-piece handles so this varies from what
we have. As the ambulance originally came from Europe, could this even be a
Hotchkiss jeep jack? As the jack is unmarked, the distinctive handle is
probably the best key to its identity.

Any help in solving this mystery would be appreciated.
