Marine Corps M38A1's purchased under USMC contracts in the early 1960's (the
latest I have seen were 1964 models) had "posi-traction" front and rear ends
and the heavy rear crossmember reinforcement which had the lifting rings on
the ends of the cross member. The front bumper simply had the large, round
USMC lifting rings in place of the standard, smaller, stock lifting rings.
There is a modification kit available to convert your M38A1/M170 to this USMC
configuration. I dont know if earlier Marine Corps M38A1's used these
modifications.
