Hi Steve,
Can confirm exactly this effect, my idle was still rough after the new
capacitor went in but it never got worse and would accelerate off-idle
instantly even very hot which was an improvement.

So although convinced I'd got the optimum idle settings we had another
fiddle with the idle mixture screws, two in this case as its a twin barre=
l
(that you could shove your fist down!).

What do you know, a turn and a half leaner and a turn less throttle stop
screw required, now we had settings near to the manual nominal start poin=
t,
no slight smell of =

over-richness and no occasional hint of black sooty exhaust gas.

Marginal sparks have always been a puzzle, you'd think any spark that set=
s
the mixture off would do, apparently not so, possibly a weak short durati=
on
spark fires the mixture immediately around the plug and then blows itself=

out as it were.

Nobody much worries now as the energy transfer electronic systems produce=
a
long duration bolt of lightning that would make Thor proud and seem to
happily ignite todays weak, economical and "clean" mixtures.

Good luck
