Don't have any info on the American Land Train, but the term "Land Train"
is still in use today in Australia. There are companies that operate them
to haul supplies deep into the outback. Most if not all of them use
ex-military surplus trucks. I have an article in Road King here somewhere
detailing one guy who uses an ex-military German MAN 8x8 diesel that he
bought surplus to pull 2 and 3 trailers. Distances can easily reach 3000
miles for a job and there are obviously alot of river crossings, etc. He
said the rig is underpowered and he wishes he had a turbo, but he loves the
MAN vehicle. The truck has a big "LAND TRAIN" sign on the front to be in
compliance with Australian law (similar to "WIDE LOAD" sign).

PS, anybody have any info on gigantic military crash cranes? I saw one
about a month ago being transported from a local Naval base - it was HUGE!
tires were 30x30 and looked even bigger. I couldn't get next to it to see
the make, it was turning off onto the highway.
