For vehicles sitting up many years, it is important to run the motor under a
load once you do start it, (5-10 mins) to alow all the oil to circulate and
varnishes to liquify, this prevents values from sticking . Then change the
oil ( HOT) and add new oil before the mulit-mile test run. THis assumes that
you have already changed filters and put new gas in the place of the old
fuel. I try to run the highest recomended octane I can find during this
reincarnation peroid. I have just revived over 50 jeeps sitting at least 7
years, and found very little trouble after following this procedure. Some
gas just loses its octane without turning into varnish, other brands turn
sour very quickly.
If the fuel pump can be primed with some fresh gas from the output side, this
seems to prolong its service life. For pics of these rare finds goto
