[MV] Left/Right Traffic

The roman legions marched on the left side of the roads of the
Roman Empire. So traffic at that time was on the left side of the
road.

Later Napoleon came and gave the countries where he ruled new laws.
He ordered to drive on the right side of the road. Napoleon, in
contrast to the Romans, didn't come to the United Kingdom. So there
the people are still driving on the left side of the road.

Sweden switched from left side traffic to right side traffic around 1962,
I think. For some days (2-3) every traffic on the roads was prohibited.
After that for the next month there was a strict speed limit of 30 km/h
(20 mph). Before that time, when left side traffic was still used, the
VOLVO cars in Sweden had left hand drive (LHD). So it was common in
Sweden in the late 50s to drive a car with LHD on roads with left
side traffic.

That's not a big problem, a few weeks ago I was in England with my German
LHD Volkswagen Golf. The only problem is the visibility if you want to
overtake another vehicle.

If you drive from left-side-driving England to right-side driving France
via the Eurotunnel, your car rides in the LeShuttle train. In France there
is a big sign "Drive on the right" and you know what you have to do.

Regards from right-side-driving Germany
Andreas
