Help !I'm trying to decide whether to fit a spare gas can bracket to my
MB or not .AAW Vol. 1 page 137 states the bracket was fitted after 217309
Vol. 2 page 181 states no bracket untill after 158372 - 174739 , Vol 2 page
241 states that every jeep after 165582 came with a can attached to the
rear panel. TM-10-1186 states (page 136) spare gas can bracket after 217309.
My MB is 177805 so was it factory fitted with a bracket or not? The question
is further confused because when I bought the jeep it had a fabricated bracket,
much like the ones seen on early jeeps in photos .This bracket is simple but
well made and looks like one of a batch rather than a home made one of a kind
bracket, it is stamped FV 16050. Is this off something else or what? There are
no signs of the holes for the standard bracket although it's kind of hard to
tell , rust and all that. This jeep had been repaired but not restored in the
late fifties and then parked under a tree in 60 something so it seems unlikely
that the bracket is a deliberate copy of an early one , it's either what it appears
to be or a bracket off something else. As I said HELP !
