Hi Greg,

Did a bit of work on this for my FV623 and luckily the lube guy in the
Defence Research Agency (who has all the books) is very approachable.

Translation: OM =3D oil mineral. OMD =3D oil mineral detergent. OEP =3D=
oil
extreme pressure.

OMD 110 is SAE 30 - MIL 2104 (Silkolene Ashford 30 - readily available)

OMD 40 is SAE 10 - (eg, Shell Rotella SX10W, Gulf XHD 10W)

OEP 220 is 90EP Hypoid gear oil - (80/90, 90/140 all acceptable)

OMD 75 is 10/30 or 15/40 engine oil but note this was specified in the 70=
's
to replace SAE 30 and todays product is not compatible. In some Brit
vehicles the pressure fed gearbox is re-specified for OMD 75 (Stalwart
especially) - use SAE 30, multigrades get mechanically mangled.

OM 13 is ISO 15 hydraulic oil. The mil spec on this is very demanding bu=
t
unnecessary for "domestic" use. The commercial equivalent is BP Bartram =
HV
15 and is an airliner flight qualified product, with a price tag to match=
=2E =

Acceptable alternatives are Esso Nuto 15, Shell Clavus 15, Shell Tellus
R10, Fina Cirkan 15 or any "ISO" 15 hydraulic oil.

OX 8 - Brake fluid.

In some maintenance schedules you may find the addition of 20% OX 320 to
gear oil, this is colloidal graphite and was fashionable at the time. Th=
e
major application is gun recoil slides, it was favoured for the epicyclic=

reduction hubs on the 600 series chassis in a vain effort to reduce
mechanical losses, molygear would do, if you're feeling rich.
