I just received my 50 cal dummy machine gun from Lee Hutchins and thought I
would give you my opinion on it. I ordered the "gun" in March of this
year. While Lee usually ships faster than 8 months, I understand that he
moved his business and was behind on orders for quite some time. The first
product to be turned out after his move appeared to be the 1919A4 dummy
guns. I contacted Lee a few times to discuss oxygen/propane options and to
find out status of my dummy gun. He was always very friendly and did give
me an expected date of delivery which was close to actual delivery time.
The gun came packaged in two seperate boxes, one which he builds himself
from wood which does give excellent protection to the main body of the gun.
The barrel is shipped in a heavy PVC tube, again giving good protection.
The 50 cal is a truely awesome sight especially when I installed it on my
M2A1 halftrack. I was very happy with the quality of workmanship that Lee
did on this gun. Weight is approx the same as the real gun (around 80
pounds). All parts appear to be either the real thing or a very good
reprodution. The top cover opens, the safety lever operates, barrel screws
into the trunion, charging handle pulls back (spring loaded), and the
sights and wooden spade grips are included. The interior consists of a
machined block of steel that is spring loaded which allows "simulated
cocking of the gun". The gun is parkerized and the mounting holes aligned
perfectly with cradle on my ring mount. For anyone looking for a dummy 50
cal, I would highly recommend checking with Lee. The price on his 50 cal
was just a little over $600.00, and when you receive it all you need to do
is install the spade grip assembly (all screws provided), screw in the
barrel, and install the cocking handle. Again, I am extremely happy and
think it is a better deal than buying one of the parts kits (no right side
plate and some other internal parts) for $2400.00.
