Recently in investigating options for some carb problems on my '43
Federal, a Hercules engine parts supplier told me that most electric
fuel pumps crank out about 8 pounds of pressure whereas the old
mechanical fuel pumps produced only about 2-3 pounds of pressure which
is ample for the stock carb & engine. Hence, the higher pressure from a
non-adjustable electic fuel pump forces fuel past the carb's needle and
seat, and floods the engine. I plan to install an adjustable fuel pump
pressure REGULATOR on my truck. Here in South Carolina I have found the
regulators at Advance Auto Parts stores for about $18.00. You need to
know your fuel line size (1/4", 3/8", etc.) in order to get the right
one. J.C. Whitney also advertises these for about the same price +
shipping.
