Greetings from Salem:

Last weekend, I was lucky enough to find a WWII stretcher cart/carrier
at a local historic house's flea market. It consists of two bicycle size
wheels, mounted under double springs with a U shaped chanel for the litter
poles to ride on, kept in place by a clamp. The wheels come apart of ease
of storage. It appears original and possible complete, with only light rust
on the dusty spots from humid storage I was extremely lucky to find a
crumbling decal with the following info; JERALD SULKY CO, WATERLOO, IOWA
10/14/42, PURCHASE ORDER M.1187 SERIAL NO. 8349. By using
Metacrwler, I was able to find out that they are still at 3050 Wagner Rd in
Waterloo today!
The MVPA directory does not list any owners of this type of item, but
as they list miscellaneous vehicles by make, there may be some in the club.
I don't know if other makers made these. I do believe that I have saw
pictures of a litter carrier in "Army Motors, or Supply Line' coverage of
one of the national conventions.
Might any on the list have any knowledge of this type of item? Saw one
at a convention? Is it's use covered in any medic's manuals for the early
war period? Might there be a manual on it? The value ? Did they ever see
any real use? Any info will be appreciated.
