You can boost the current carrying capacity of the little 3 terminal regulators
like the 7805 and (for six volts the 7806) by having it drive a power

+12v NPN trans ~5.3v
----------- -------------
| \ /\ (emitter)
| \ /
| ----
| 7806 |

You should also a small capacitor such as a .001 to .01 mf between the input
and output terminals of the 780x regulator and the ground terminal to prevent
noise or osciliation. The power transistor is an NPN type.

A friend of mine has found a simple way to readjust the 6v voltage regulator to
make it have the 6v generator produce 12v. Tat way you keep the original reg
and generator.
