To remove an old bearing from the shaft here's a trick I use, that an old
mechanic taught me years ago. After removing the outer shell and bearings,
I place the shaft on an anvil then I hit the inner cone as hard as I can a
few times with a big hammer. Depending on the size of the bearing I might
even use a sledge hammer. The cone will stretch just a bit and can easily
be removed. Or, it will break and fall apart. Either way it's off. I always
wear full face protective gear as parts usually fly.
