[MV] Tracks...

The M-60 series of vehicles all had a rubber pad that fastened to the
track with a nut. The pads are intended to be a part of the working
track and are not removed for combat operations. One of the problems
with tracks is not moving forward but moving sideways.with no control on
ice or snow. I had direct experience with M-60's, Sheridians, and the
M-113 series of vehicles in the snow, except for ice and packed snow
they worked well in the field in the winter. We generally used the
center guide trick only on the M-60s and then only on in a training
area. I suspect that if we went into combat in winter the center guides
would have been reverse (every 5th or so) and the damage on the road
would have been mute.
