I'm cautious about making definitive statements, but the M29 and 29C
Weasels had a Warner T84J side shift transmission. Looks pretty much
like a jeep unit with side shift but has just enough detail differences
that most of the internals plus clutch plate etc will not interchange
easily. Not rare at all really, but tend to suffer from broken /
stripped 1st and reverse gears where owners who couldn't or wouldn't
read the dash instruction plate tried to force them into gear while
still moving too fast. Also used or pre-postwar cars (Studebaker
Champion comes to mind, or was that the engine ?) with column change,
and at one time I had one with an overdrive fitted to the output side -
never figured out how to make it work though.
