Gentlemen,
Two comments:
I own a 1987 CUCV, which has the GM 6.2 liter diesel. We have just gone
through three weeks of -21 Celsius to -30 Celsius. I kept the truck
plugged in, meaning a block heater and two battery warmers, and parked
in the garage at night. If I didn't, it was rough starting in the
morning. I also noted that the exhaust plume in this kind of weather is
large, which I attributed to the cold air not letting the engine reach
its optimum operating temperature. In warmer weather, this does not
happen. What do they do in the field in this kind of weather?
I happened to see a show called The Valour and the Horror a few days
again. A Canadian tank veteran said that if a diesel tank was hit, you
had a couple of minutes to get out before it brewed, and if a gasoline
tank was hit, you had seconds to get out before it brewed.
