I ran into the 2" difference when offered two spare engines (for free) for
Dad's WC12 project. The engines offered were from a dump truck ('39 Dodge)
and a year unknown compressor (same engine but with compressor head). The
gentleman offering them made sure I measured them all because he was aware of
the difference and the WC was shorter. He said the difference was because the
longer ones were the truck engines and the shorter was the regular car
engine. Later opportunity to check a couple of Dodge car engines confirmed
they were the same length as all the WC engines we have, both T series and P
series. Don't know what this means but hope it helps someone.
