[MV] MV Jeep hunts

I'd like to add my two cents worth to this thread.
I have a large group of people who know that I am 'into' army jeeps and they
report every'find' to me to be checked out.
Since most of them can hardly tell the difference between a CJ 7 and a Ford
GP, I usually end up looking at a rusty CJ Renegade that was supposed to be an
army jeep.
Just today I was told about a jeep on the top of a hill where a hermit lives.
A friend and I hiked about a mile straight up (How'd they ever get a jeep up
here!?) and at the end of the trail found 1. an early 1800s log cabin in
deplorable shape, and 2 (you guessed it) a rusty CJ5. I t wasn't an army
jeep, but I do now have another great story to embellish a little and tell.
I have seen 'army jeeps' that turned out to be postals, CJs and Land Cruisers.
I have driven halfway through the state to look at a rusty GPW with hardly
anything left and a metal hardtop welded on. (not for sale, by the way-"we're
gonna restore it")
I have been on probably over a hundred such goose chases, only a few of which
turned out to be real 'army jeeps' (and fewer still for sale) but I ALWAYS
thank the tip giver for the information, because they will be much more likely
to tell me about the next one. Who knows what they'll see next?
Besides, I have a great time grabbing a buddy and a couple of deli hoagies and
a few cans of pop and going on a road trip to go jeep hunting (it's always in
season!)
And on one of those tips you might get lucky like I did and find a GPW that
had been spirited away for 26 years.
So I say thanks to all the tip givers, and don't look at unproductive trips as
a waste of time. The odds are against you, but when you hit, its a RUSH!
Sorry so long.
