Brian,
The lug wrench you are looking for is listed in manual TM - 9-8024,
Operation and Organizational Maintenance: 2 1/2 ton 6 X 6 Cargo Trucks M135
and M211, 15 July 1953, Chapter 3, Section I, Parts, Special Tools, and
Equipment for Operation and Organizational Maintenance, Page 113. Paragraph
68 list the special tools needed. There under table III says,
1. WRENCH, wheel stud nut, double-head socket, 1 33/64inch hex opening,
0.817inch square opening, 22 1/2inch long. No. C7950664(41-W-3838-75) For
removing wheel stud nuts. There's a picture on page 116.
I was at my local flea market about 3 months ago and there was a guy there
selling tools. I looked around a saw some of these tools. They were chrome
or silver Vs... black(O.D.) but was the same tool. He was asking $15, If I
recall. You would still need a hexagonal shaped breaker bar about 6 foot
long to get enough leverage on it. One of the our club members has a Snap-On
1" socket driver that he paid almost $200 for, but says it will break off
even the most stubborn wheel nuts.
To remove my wheels, I first used an impact wrench to loosen and than I put
the wheels back on using only heavy duty hand tools. That way if I have a
flat, I can change it myself. I also carry a 12ton bottle jack and several
pieces of 2 x 12 wood. Double stacked makes it 4 x 12, because, if your on
dirt you need something to distribute the weight, otherwise the vehicle will
smash the jack into the dirt. I have never had a flat that required
immediate changing. The rears will run fine, or a least long enough to get
you home, but the front is another story.
