We went out to breakfast in our 1951 M-37, after we had filled our
bellies, we came out to discover that our M-37 had also filled it's
belly! The gas guage was on 1/2 tank of gas when we went in and upon
our return we had a full tank of gas.
Suspect we have a guage problem!
Ran some tests as follows:
Disconnected the sending unit, the guage was still full, with the key
on.
The next test was to disconnect the wire off the guage to the tank used
a test light backwards, powered the clip used the point as a ground and
the tester did not light until I grounded the wire at the sending unit
end.
This tells me that the wire is not pinched in the frame and grounding
guage.
With the wire off the guage, ignition switch on, it still reads full. Is
the guage shorted out?
Or has the resister gone bad?
For it's a 1951 with a 6 volt guage.
How can I test? or has this confirmed that is a bad guage?
Whats the new guage cost? and who would have them?
We would appreciate any help on this.
Thanks,
Bruce & Jo
51 M-37
