Sounds as if your engine gets too rich mixture. This could have both
reasons. First check that the carb needle valve closes tight.

Note that the fuel level in the float chamber depends on the pressure
in the fuel line. More pressure makes a higher fuel level and a richer
mixture. The carb will only make correct mixture with the fuel pressure
for which it is designed.

So check the pressure in the fuel line in front of the carb. It must=20
not be higher than with the original mechanical pump.

Typical pressures are 0,3 bar (5 psi) but check your workshop manual
for the correct pressure.
