[MV] M38A1 battery drain problem

I have a 56 M38A1 with a battery "drain" problem, and I was wondering if
someone has had a similar situation. The batteries (dual 12V being used for
24V original system) go dead when the vehicle sits overnight, unless I
disconnect a terminal. I was told awhile back that carbon builds up in the
starter switch, and that blowing it out with an air compressor through the
removable plug will cure the shorting out problem. Has anyone heard of or run
into this easy remedy?

I have not driven this vehicle for a number of years. After silently
monitoring this mailing list for the last few months, I have renewed faith
that there actually are people out there that appreciate authenticity and the
preservation of vintage vehicles! I guess it's time to get off the old duff
and finish the restoration that I started way back then, now that I'm so
inspired!
