Mr. Standefer,

I would like to apologize to you and any other members of this mil-veh list
that may share similar feelings regarding the "boneyard" posting I made a
couple of days ago. I suppose a further explanation of why I made the posting
is in order so, hopefully, nobody else will get as "ticked off" as you
obviously did.

I am NOT a "dealer" in military vehicles, militaria, or anything else of
similar nature. I am the design department manager for a design/build general
contractor, with an avid interest in collecting special interest vehicles for
my own personal enjoyment and satisfaction. I am particularly interested in
Willys vehicles, as I own a 1956 M38A1 and a 1956 CJ5, among other vehicles
that I'm sure my wife would rather see sold than not. I have no intentions of
selling any of the vehicles I currently own or hope to buy in the future.
Actually, I really don't see why anyone would want to sell anything of value,
as that's the reason for keeping it in the first place. I am not a rich man
by any means, although I am not as poor now as I was ten years ago, when I
found this place.

It's not that I don't want to share the information regarding this boneyard at
all, but just not yet. I may as well just post the location of my favorite
fishing hole on the net while I'm at it. The people that own this stuff are
very private individuals, and somewhat hard to deal with. I may go back there
and nothing at all be left, but when I do go I know that they only accept
"cash in hand" payment, if they're in a mood to sell anything at that
particular time of the day. I just want the opportunity to try to add an M5
Stuart or a DUKW to my rather pitiful collection before this place is widely
known. It's not like I can go to the local used car lot and buy a tank! I
certainly will share more information about this place when the proper time
comes.

I would honestly like to have a feel for the worth of the vehicles mentioned
prior to making either a "too low" or "too high" offer for any of them. The
reason for the original posting asking members of this mil-veh list for help
in that respect is just that, and nothing more. If I make an offer too low,
then I stand a good chance of being escorted off these people's property at
gunpoint, and I don't have the funds available to make the mistake of offering
too much. I'm not asking for major research here, just a "ballpark" idea
prior to planning a trip back there. I know the place still existed a couple
of years ago, so I plan to make the two hour trip within a couple of months to
confirm it.

By the way, thanks for the positive responses I've gotten back from most of
you so far. If I do in fact become the proud owner of the Stuart (which I
seriously doubt), it certainly won't be for sale until my heirs decide to
liquidate my estate! Tony, I'm not sure if your local mv club would "frown on
this type of behavior", but I'm glad I'm not a member if so!

David Mumpower
