If you connect a 12v load to one battery of a 24v system you will destroy
the other battery of the 24v system. The 24v charging system will try to
replace whatever current is being drawn from the first battery. Because the
batteries are in series, this charging current must also go through the
second battery. Since none of this load current is being drawn from the
second battery, it will quickly be cooked from the unnecessary overcharge.
Don't do it. Electric winches aren't much count anyway. Ever see the
military use them? If you want a winch that works, go pto or hydraulic.
