[MV] Why do MVs have 24 V systems?

All bigger trucks (will say around 6 tons total weight and more)
have 24 V systems, because you can't start a real big engine
with 12 Volts.

The army likes to standardize everything. If you have only vehicles
with 24 V systems in your motorpool, you only need 24 V bulbs,
24 V radio equipment and all the other stuff in the 24 V version.
If you have 12 V and 24 V vehicles in your motorpool, you need
all the eletric stuff in a 12 V and a 24 V version.

So the army likes to have only 24 V vehicles in the motorpool.

Regards from Germany, where the Bundeswehr uses 24 V, too

Andreas
