Re: [MV] Hummer 'lectric winch

All the Hummers we had (USAF) had the 24 volt electric winches, and we used
them occasionally and never had a problem. If they are looking at the
Milemarker, I am sure that it is a very limited program, probably initiated
by Milemarker with some sort of a freebe deal. If they were to read Four
Wheel and Off Road Magazine a couple months back, when they compared the
Milemarker with the electric winches on the market, they wouldn't use it.
The article painted a pretty bleak picture, as far as reliability and
stress/wear and tear on the steering gearbox and the fluid. The structure
of the winch itself also bent during these tests.
Just for the record, I wouldn't put anything other than PTO on my jeep or
truck.

According to the info found on the site for "MileMarker" (manufacture
of hydraulic winches) the military is now outfitting Hummers with their
winches, operating off of the hydraulic steering pump.
