[MV] M-38 questions

Greetings:

I own a '52 M-38 and have a few questions that relate to researching it's
history. First, the original data plates are missing, however the vehicle
registration shows the serial number as MC64112. This seems reasonable, but
does anyone know of another way to verify a serial number?

Second, the engine serial number is MC 81742. Does that necessarily mean that
it is not the original engine? I am not sure if the factory matched chassis
and engine numbers, or if the two would not have matched from the outset.

Third, I can barely read an Army registration number on the hood, under
several layers of OD. Any way to trace the military service of the jeep from
this number ?(assuming it is an actual number, and not something made up by a
previous owner).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Chris DeWitt
