Ladies & Gentlemen:

An auto salvage yard told me about Easy Off. He said he uses it all the time. Easy Off Oven Cleaner will loosen grease better than anything I know of. Having said that, there are some big negatives.

1) It is expensive compared to most commercial automotive degreasers. Kano "Floway" is less than half the price per unit volume (about $11-15/gallon and it works well. However, if you check your tech manuals you will find reference to "mineral spirits paint thinner." This stuf is really cheap, and works as good as Floway. At $2.50 per gallon, I don't worry about how much it takes.

2) Oven cleaner is toxic. If you get a slight inhalation of the spray, you will cough and your lungs will hurt for hours. I know, I was foolish enough to let it happen to me. USE A MASK! If you read the label warnings you will wonder how this stuff is sold for residental use in todays over-regulated environment. OSHA and the EPA probably haven't discovered this stuff yet.

3) Oven cleaner will corrode aluminum and "pot metal" FAST. Carburetors, water pump housings, alternators, etc should not come close to this stuff. Everything non-steel piece it touched on my engine shows pitting and discoloration.

In summary, if you are going to use this stuff, take precautions, read the label first, and BE CAREFUL.
