That is great, but USAA varies greatly. I talked to USAA about getting
insurance from them on my '43 GPW and '67 M151A1. They said that
they can't even write a policy in Oklahoma for a classic. Something to do
with licensing in this state. Even if they could write the policy, it is
through another underwriter and the restrictions range from the usual to
rather stringint. The ones I can recall are:

-Vehicle can never be left unattended outside of named storage location.
-Vehicle must be stored in locked garage (would my hangar count?)
-driven no more than 2500 annually
-driven only for organized events--no weekend drives

The first one struck me as a little odd. If you take your vehicle to a show,
technically, you would have to sleep with it. You can't go look at
someone else's vehicle either.

The other requirements were pretty much typical of any classic/antique
insurance.

I haven't checked yet, but I am told that USAA will not insure anything
over 1 ton either. I didn't bother to ask about my 1-1/2 International. I
personally am switching to a local agent for my military vehicle
insurance. With USAA, I am paying $320 annually for each vehicle. With
my local agent, the cost will be $210 annually for ALL THREE.

For most things, USAA is great. I will keep my daily drivers and home
owners insurance with them, but shop around for military vehicle
insurance because they aren't always the best or cheapest.

Howdy List,
I just had an interesting phone converstaion with my USAA
insurance agent.
I was getting a quote for insurance on my 1944 MB even though it'll be a
LONG time before it's road worthy. Usually there is the choice between
(A.) Regular insurance with only the book value (B.) Antique Vehicle
Insurance which puts all sorts of storage & use restrictions on you
vehicle.
In Georgia (the only state the agent knew that USAA offered this
choice)
you can have the vehicle appraised & insured by that value. The vehicle
has to be over 25 years old. The agent says the only thing special you
need is a signed letter from the appraiser with the value, appraiser
organization, and other such appraiser identification info from him. I
asked about restrictions on the parking & storage and he said that there
were no additional restrictions like the ones for Antique vehicle
coverage.
It sounds like the perfect blend of coverage & flexibility.
Hope this helps the MV owners in Georgia. If you need more info,
I can
try to get the same operator at USAA for more info. He specialized in
Georgia & Louisiana so that's the only reason he knew about it. We are
going to look into this for my Wife's 1969 GMC, so if we do get the policy,
I'll update everyone on the process.
