Zimmerit was a non-magnetic coating (maybe some rubber/plastic?). It's
purpose
was to prevent sticky and magnetic antitank mines from being placed on
the tank.
The Russian infantry used these alot, so all German tanks destined for
the Eastern
front had the zimmerit applied. Since no US or UK tanks used a coating,
I assume these
kind of mines were not being used by the Germans.
