Hi fellow od heads,
We mount truck tires at our shop. When using radial tires with tubes, you
must: use a "radial tube" (much heavier & will last the life of the tire).
When mounted on split rim wheels, you also need to use "flaps" (no such thing
as a radial flap). The tube gets installed in the tire, then the flap goes
over the tube.(it acts as a liner between the wheel & the tube, to keep the
tube from getting pinched in the lock ring). Then the tube gets aired up just
enough to hold everything together. Now it's time to mount it on the wheel!
It's neither fun nor safe, Best left to a professional with a tire cage! Many
people have lost their lives mounting split rim tires themselves! One farmer
outside of the small town I live in had the top of his head taken off by one!!
BE VERY CAREFULL!
