[MV] A good 24V battery charger?

I have found what is, to me, a really nice buy in a 24V charger. It not
only charged my dual 12V system in my Unimog but it let me know that I was
NOT getting a full charge with my old Heathkit doing 12V twice. My new one
is made by Christie Electric Corp. but you will see "Everest Jennings" in
large letters on the front. This is because the charger was designed for
wheelchair batteries. It has lots of bells and whistles. There are four
colored lights that tell you:

RED: The battery is charging.

YELLOW: 80% charged, limit your use.

GREEN: Fully charged, go find something useful to do.

FLASHING RED: Your battery will make a good door stop.

There is a 15a fuse conveniently placed on the front panel plus an amp
meter to let you know if the lights are lying.

It has an on/off switch with a momentary "Start" position! Just what I'm
starting is a mystery to me. Can't be a diesel generator, it doesn't make
any noise.
The unit only puts out 8a but this seems to me to be of small import
considering that you can hook up and go on vacation!

One minor glitch: It arrives with a really wierd plug on the charging wire.
Cut it off and install battery clips from an auto parts store. Negative
is the twin conductor with the tracer marks.

I found this charger in the "Surplus Center 1998" catalog, page 152,
$67.99. Their order telephone #1-800-488-3407. It appears to me to be
well made. Mine showed up with a nice swiveling cad plated steel handle on
top that is not shown in the catalog!?

Hope I've helped somebody.
