Stu,
I have restored 2 A1 fuel pumps that quit and both times it was
due to gasoline residues jamming the plunger. The pumps are
really a simple construction and easy to disassemble. Basically
all there is to them is a solenoid with a plunger inside. The
plunger is drilled through and there are valves on both ends of
the plunger. So as the plunger pulsates up and down it pulls and
pushes the fuel with it. After removing the in tank filter from
around the pump turn the bottom counter clockwise and remove the
inner filter. Remove the little retaining ring from the bottom of
the cylinder and the plunger should fall out. I had to soak one
of mine with penetrating oil before it would even budge it was
jammed so tight with residues. I just wiped every thing off and
reassembled. When I held the pump upright and applied 24 volts it
purred like a contented kitten.

Buzz
